Movement of vehicles on Charmadi Ghat restricted

The Chikkamagaluru district administration has continued to restrict the movement of vehicles on Charmadi Ghat.

Only light motor vehicles can travel on the Mangaluru-Villipuram highway (NH-73) between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., till further orders by the administration.

Heavy rains

This has been in effect since the road was damaged following heavy rains in the first week of August. Deputy Commissioner Bagadi Gautam, on Monday, issued an order continuing the restrictions on traffic movement till further notice.

The Deputy Commissioner, in his order, cited that National Highways Division of the Department of Public Works had sent a proposal to the Ministry of Surface Transport to take up repair work to make the road motorable at a cost of ₹19 crore. The work would be taken up as soon as the proposal was approved.

As much as ₹300 crore required to take up permanent work on the stretch.
