After the success of Karnataka Premiere League (KPL), Hubballi-based BDK Sports Foundation has come with the idea of taking the cricket battle to the local level, and is organising Hubballi Premiere League (HPL).

BDK Sports Foundation, which has been nurturing cricketing talent in the region, plans to encourage the cricketing talent in the North Karnataka region through the event.

Addressing presspersons here on Thursday during the launch of the HPL logo, Trustee of BDK Sports Foundation Shivanand Gunjal said during the HPL, for the first time in the State, premiere league matches would be played at the zonal level and players above the age of 18 years from the districts that fall under the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) Dharwad Zone would benefit from the initiative.

Mr. Gunjal said that eight franchisee teams would be participating in the T-20 matches to be held at the KSCA Stadium at Rajnagar from November 28 to December 13.

He said players from 24 clubs in the Dharwad Zone, who represented the first and second Division League for the year 2014-15, would be eligible for the bidding process. Five players from each of the 24 teams would be nominated for bidding, the date for which would be finalised soon.

“While the Institution Member Clubs are requested to nominate players from their teams for bidding, the franchisees have the liberty to pick two players (icons) of their choice who will not be from the bidding list. The base price of each player from the bidding list will be Rs. 500 and the cap for bidding is Rs. 75,000 for each team,” Mr. Gunjal said.

The winners of the tournament will get a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh and runners up will get Rs. 60,000 in cash apart from trophies.
