The funeral rites of national working president of Republican Party of India and Dalit leader Shivaram Moga, who died on Saturday after brief illness, were performed at the Siddartha Burial Ground here on Sunday.
Prominent leaders, including Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha M. Mallikarjun Kharge, have condoled the death of Mr. Moga. “His death is a great loss to the Dalit movement,” Mr. Kharge said. He also recalled how Mr. Moga had devoted his entire life to fighting against discrimination and untouchability.
A close associate of the legendary Dalit leader Shyamsunder, Mr. Moga was primarily responsible for building a strong Dalit movement in the Hyderabad Karnataka region and also acted as a binding force of all the Dalit leaders in the region. Mr. Moga played a prominent role in the agitation demanding amendment to the Constitution to provide special status to the region. The mortal remains of Mr. Moga were kept at the Dhamma Chakra Maidan in Kalaburagi for the general public to pay their homage.
The pandal was teeming with his admirers and followers right from the morning.
