Modi sermonises about peace abroad, promotes warmongering back at home: Kanhaiya

The CPI leader was to address two scheduled programmes, of which one that was supposed to be held at Gulbarga University was cancelled as the University had withdrawn the permission at the last moment.

Saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a double standard, former JNU Students’ Union president Dr. Kanhaiya Kumar said that Mr. Modi gave lengthy lectures on peace taking Gautama Buddha’s name during his foreign trips and encouraged warmongering back at home.

“Modi chants peace taking Buddha’s name abroad and begins warmongering as soon as he lands back in India. He says something and does something else. What he says doesn’t match what he actually does. Nobody wants to compromise with national security. However, raising war-frenzy in the name of national security is objectionable,” he said.

He was speaking to press persons in Kalaburagi on Tuesday. The CPI leader was here to address two scheduled programmes of which one that was supposed to be held at Gulbarga University was cancelled as the University had withdrawn the permission at the last moment.

Expressing serious concerns about the misuse of public institutions and autonomous bodies by the party in power, the firebrand youth icon of the left-wing said that democracy was in danger under the Modi regime.

“Many public, autonomous and Constitutional bodies such as CBI [Central Bureau of Investigation] and Enforcement Directorate are being unprecedentedly misused by the Modi regime to suppress the Opposition. Levelling baseless charges against those criticise or oppose the people in power, implicating them in false cases and pushing them behind the bars have become the order of the day under Modi. Instead of following the legitimate procedure to enquire into the allegations and punish the guilty, the government is increasingly resorting to the illegitimate ways of intimidation and coercion to suppress the democratic voices. Whoever criticises the government policies is shown in a bad light and branded as anti-national. Mainly, Dalits, Minorities and outspoken intellectuals are at the receiving end. Modi is replacing democracy with Police Raj,” he said.
