MLIRC holds attestation parade

492 recruits take oath in front of tricolour and regimental colours

The attestation parade of the Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre (MLIRC) was held at Talekar Drill Square in Belagavi on Thursday.

As many as 492 recruits were attested after the successful completion of their training. They will be reporting for duty at various parts of the country.

Lt. Gen. P.J.S. Pannu, Colonel of the Maratha Light Infantry, reviewed the parade.

The soldiers took oath in the presence of the tricolour and the regimental colours to serve and protect the country at the cost of their lives.

The parade was commanded by Badwaik Hemkrushna and the Parade Adjutant was Yumnam Gandhi.

Mr. Pannu reminded the soldiers of the rich heritage and the glory of the infantry, one of the oldest infantry regiments of the Army.

He stressed upon the importance of discipline and physical fitness in a soldier’s life. He exuded confidence in the training conducted at the Belagavi Centre and said it would stand the young soldiers in good stead.

He awarded meritorious recruits for excelling in different spheres of training during the parade.

The Colonel R.D. Nikam Trophy for the best performance by a recruit of the attestation group, in all spheres of training and co-curricular activities, was awarded to Harish Bhosale.

The Namdev Jadhav Medal and Trophy was awarded to Palve Abhishek for being the best recruit in firing.

The Sucha Singh Memorial Cup for the best recruit displaying physical prowess and endurance in uutdoor activities was awarded to Temgire Sandesh.

Munde Balasaheb was awarded the Colonel N.J. Nair Medal for his outstanding performance in field craft. The Major S.S. Brar Medal for the best recruit in physical training was awarded to Sarika Nivas. Badwaik Hemkrushna was awarded Subedar the Honorary Captain Keshav Rao Talekar Medal and Trophy for best performance in drill.

Mr. Pannu also presented six ‘veer naris’ with badges of sacrifice and certificates of honour. The women honoured were Tulsa, widow of the late Subedar Parshuram Londe; Savita, widow of late Sepoy Dhangar Mhalu; Lata, widow of of late Subedar Tonapi Kallapa; Kamal, mother of late Sepoy Patil Ramdas; Vaishali, widow of late Sepoy Kyadagi Tejpal, and Sujata, wife of late Sepoy Bharat Shahpurkar.
