The State government on Tuesday recommended the names of former Bengaluru Mayor P.R. Ramesh; former Congress MLA for Ramanagaram C.M. Lingappa; and KPCC member Mohan Kondaji for the nominated seats in the Legislative Council.
The seats have been vacant following the completion of the term of actor Jaggesh, educationalist and social worker P.V. Krishna Bhat, and BJP leader Lehar Singh, all nominated during the previous BJP regime. However, Mr. Singh was elected to the council from the Legislative Assembly constituency.
The party high command cleared the names of the three candidates and the government has recommended them to Governor Vajubhai R. Vala for his consent, sources in the Secretariat said.
Though there are a dozen candidates aspiring to be members of the Upper House, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah recommended Mr. Ramesh, Mr. Lingappa and Mr. Kondaji after weighing caste and other criteria, sources said.
