Narasimharaja Constituency MLA Tanvir Sait has flayed the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) for its “inept administration” and faulted the officials for their failure to conceive and implement civic works for the comprehensive development of the city.

Citing the example of the situation that arose after the recent rains in Mysuru, Mr. Sait said it wreaked havoc in low-lying areas of the city mainly due to damage rendered to the storm-water drains that have not been maintained properly.

Mr. Sait said there was no dearth of funds for Mysuru as the city received special grant from the Chief Minister, besides Dasara grants, funds from the 13th Finance Commission besides others. But the officials concerned have failed to work for the comprehensive development of the city. “This is mainly due to a lack of vision and commitment of the officials”, he added.

Submitting a wish list to MCC Commissioner C.G. Betsurmath, Mr. Tanvir Sait claimed rain had caused maximum damage in Narasimharaja Constituency as storm-water drain and underground drainage has not been maintained well.

Among the key demands to avert such damage due to heavy rains in future, Mr. Sait sought linking of the giant storm water drain connecting Bannimantap and Hanumanthanagar, and taking up underground drainage work in the constituency at a cost of Rs. 29.85 crore which has already got the government nod.

He sought a diversion work on Rajkumar Road as rainwater was entering the local residential area besides removing silt from the storm water drain on the stretch between Gayatripuram and Police Public School. An underground drainage system connecting Raghavendra Nagar, Shantinagar and Ghousia Nagar up to Sri Srikanteshwara School was yet another demand of the MLA.

Mr. Sait wanted the MCC to conceive a rainwater diversion plan before taking up road repair works in ward number 51 where the foundation of 36 houses were below the road level and hence risked being flooded with water inflow during heavy rain. Similar projects have to be envisaged at many residential areas in ward number 54 and 59, he added.

Taking exception to the delay in releasing compensation, Mr. Sait pointed out that there has been no response to applications claiming relief for rain damages and wanted the MCC to expedite the claims.
