Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises G.M. Siddeshwar has said that the Union government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has taken all possible steps to protect the interests of the poor and the downtrodden in the country in last one year and would continue to do the same in future also.

Speaking after inaugurating the membership drive organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) district unit here on Wednesday, he said that unable to tolerate the success of Mr. Modi , the Congress leaders are trying to misguide the people by issuing controversial statements.

Commenting on the Sushma Swaraj incident , he said the Congress leaders are trying to make it an issue to tarnish the image of the government. Ms. Swaraj has already clarified that she helped Lalit Modi only on humanitarian grounds and nothing else. Congress leaders should cooperate with the BJP in development of the nation, he said.
