Minister calls for need for action plan

District in-charge Minister, M. B. Patil, has asked officials of various departments to prepare an action plan for the implementation of sapling plantation campaign in the district.

Chairing a meeting in this regard here on Wednesday, he said that the by planting one crore saplings, the project aims at tackling drought and increasing atmospheric temperature in the district.

He said that not just government departments, but also NGOs and educational institutions would also be roped in achieving the target.

“We have set a target of planting some 20 lakh sapling each year in the district, which would reach one crore in next five years,” he said.

Mr. Patil said that besides ensuring that each students plants one sapling, all panchayat land, government land, roadside area, open areas in hospitals, hostels, schools, colleges and grazing land would be covered under the project.

Each farmer would be given at least five saplings for planting on his land.

Stating that his BLDE education institution would donate Rs. 1.25 crore for the project, the Minister said the donations would also be collected from various organizations along with government funds granted to forest department for the purpose.

Deputy Commissioner, D. Randeep who was also present, said that this year, the forest department has set a target of planting saplings on 13,000 hectare land. He said that a district level committee would be constituted for implementation of the project.
