Annoyed by an alleged love affair, a woman killed her daughter at Chinnapura in Kolar taluk under Rural police limits on Monday night. The police gave the name of the victim as Rajeshwari (18).
Rajeshwari’s mother, Venkatamma (45), reportedly picked up a quarrel with her on Monday night as she was upset that Rajeshwari had failed in the recent second PU examinations. Venkatamma was also upset over her daughter’s alleged love affair with a youth. She came to know about the affair from people in the locality.
She raked up the issue with Rajeshwari thinking the love affair spoiled her education. Rajeshwari reportedly questioned her mother and told her not to talk about her affair. This attitude reportedly enraged Venkatamma and she beat Rajeshwari with a wooden club. The girl died on the spot, police sources said.
Venkatamma’s husband had expired when Rajeshwari was only seven months old. She brought up two girls and a boy by working as a coolie. Police arrested Venkatamma on charges of murder. Superintendent of Police Rohini Katoch visited the spot.
