Media barred from sahitya sammelan meeting

The second preparatory meeting for holding 82nd Kannada Sahitya Sammelan in Raichur was held at the office of Deputy Commissioner here on Saturday. However, it was a closed-door meeting.

Except a few elected representatives and Kannada Sahitya Parishat members, the public including media representatives were sent out of meeting hall.

Media representative protested against the Deputy Commissioner’s decision and argued with people’s representatives outside the DC office.

“The meeting unanimously resolved to form a reception committee headed by Minister of State for Medical Education and Raichur in-charge Sharan Prakash Patil. MLC Boseraju and Raichur MLA Shivaraj Patil will be working presidents. Deputy Commissioner will be convenor. All MLAs and the chairmen of State-owned Boards and Corporations, whose native place is Raichur, will be vice-presidents. District president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat will be general secretary,” Mahantesh Maski, district president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, told The Hindu after the meeting.
