A 22-year-old medical student from Kerala committed suicide by jumping off the fourth floor of her hostel at the Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) here on Wednesday morning.

According to the police, the deceased, identified as Keerti Vinodan, was a native of Kerala and was pursuing her final year MBBS at BIMS College here.

The incident took place at 9 a.m. The victim died on the spot following a grave head injury, said a police officer from the New Town Police Station.

Her friends said that the deceased was a brilliant student and had scored high marks in the All India Pre Medical Test. She was supposed to write her final year examination in December this year.

“We scanned the room for any suicide note or other reason that led the student to commit suicide,” the police said and added that they have recovered a diary belonging to her filled with entries of academic activities.

Vinodan, victim’s father, said that his daughter was tense and depressed when she spoke with him last night over the phone. A case has been registered in New Town Police Station.
