Mass marriage event gets poor response

October 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - Mysuru:

Due to the muted response to ‘Shubharambha’, (simple marriage programme), in Mysuru, the district administration has decided to invite couples from Karnataka.

Couples planning to get married in the next few days can register their names for the ceremony to be held on November 8 on the Kalamandira premises at the Sri Kanteshwaraswamy Temple in Nanjangud taluk in Mysuru.

Either the bride or the groom should be from Karnataka to get married in the mass marriage programme.

The district administration had resolved to hold simple marriages to end lavish expenditure. Though the event was announced about 20 days ago, about 18 couples have registered so far. The district administration had decided to give mangalsutra, clothes and lunch for the couples and their relatives and friends. But despite the facilities, the programme failed to evoke a good response from the people, according to some officials. According to sources, since October 12 is Mahalaya Amavasye, many people do not even broach the subject of marriage. Those who are willing to get married in the mass marriage can download the application forms from the website www.mysore.nic.in   and submit the applications personally or via post to the Tahasildar, Shubharamba cell, room number 15, Archaeological Department, DC office complex on or before October 28. For further information interested can call 0821-2422174 or 9342003824.

Now it has been decided to invite couples from other parts of the State
