After the Mango Mela at Lalbagh in Bengaluru, Chickballapur is playing host to the fair to provide fresh mangoes to consumers.

The people as well as passengers travelling on National Highway-7 passing through the district will have a golden opportunity to savour the fruit as it is being organised at three important places viz Sidlaghat Circle, Sait Dinne and Chadulapur on the outskirt of Chickballapur town.

M. Kamalakshi, chairperson of Karnataka State Mango Development and Marketing Corporation inaugurated the fair on Wednesday (June 3) and it will continue till June 17.

M.V. Venkatesh, Zilla Panchayat CEO B.B. Kaveri participated among others.

District Administration, Karnataka State Mango Development and Marketing Corporation Ltd. and Horticulture Department have jointly organised the Mela.

The mango is being cultivated on 14,500 hectare area in Chickballapur district. The average annual mango production in the district stands around 2.25 lakh tonne.

Protecting interest of farmers and consumers

Avoiding the middlemen so that farmers will get fair price from the customers directly is the objective of the Mela, Deputy Commissioner M.V. Venkatesh said. Taking quality fruit directly to the customers is another intention, he said.

Such Melas will help farmers fetch better price on the one hand, and the customers get chemical-free, naturally ripened mango at affordable prices, Mr. Venkatesh added.
