The First Additional District and Sessions Court here on Monday convicted Puttaraju of Madihalli in Nagamangala taluk to life imprisonment for raping his minor daughter for several months.
Judge P.N. Inavalli, who announced the verdict, also imposed a fine of Rs. 45,000 on Puttaraju.
The offence took place at Madhihalli in 2013. Puttaraju had been charged with repeatedly raping his daughter for several months. However, it was not till the victim complained of severe stomach pain and the doctor, on conducting the tests, stated that she was pregnant, that the incident came to light. It may be recalled that the victim had earlier been taken to a government hospital for treatment, on March 15, after the girl complained of stomach pain, the Bindiganavile police said.
The doctor told the woman that her daughter was pregnant.
Complaint lodged
Later, a complaint was filed with the Bindiganavile police on March 16, 2013 under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Delivery
The girl delivered a child, which died sometime later.
The charges made against Puttaraju were proved after the DNA test.
Later, a charge sheet was filed against him, the police said.
