Residents of Kunduru Mutt in Channarayapatna taluk assaulted a person suspecting him to be a child snatcher on Tuesday.

John Vincent, a resident of Dasapura near Nuggehalli in Channarayapatna taluk, was allegedly tied to a tree and assaulted. He was freed after the police intervened.

The residents stopped John, who was allegedly inebriated, as he was riding a two-wheeler with two children. Accusing him of attempting to take away children, they assaulted him.

He, reportedly, had difficulty in explaining that he was also a local person and he was only dropping the children to a shop nearby. After the police intervened, the matter was resolved.

The Channarayapatna Rural Police told presspersons that two children from the locality had stopped his two-wheeler and requested him to drop at a shop as they wanted to purchase a something.

The parents who were not aware of this got worried as they saw their children on a bike with a stranger. They followed him on another bike and stopped him. The matter was resolved when the children said that they only requested for his help.

Nobody has filed a complaint with the police.
