The heavy rain left many roads flooded for hours in Belagavi on Wednesday.

A man died when the wall of his house collapsed owing to incessant rain at Salahalli in Ramdurg taluk on Tuesday night.

Mallikarjun Madakappa Maski, 31, was sleeping at home when the wall collapsed. He died on the spot. Police sought the help of residents of the village to pull his body out from under the debris. A case has been registered at Katakol police station.

Heavy rain lashed most of Belagavi district on Tuesday and Wednesday. The district received 79.3 mm of rain in 24 hours till Wednesday evening. Most roads remained flooded for hours on Wednesday. Traffic was disrupted on College Road, Congress Road Cross, Subhash Circle, Inspection Bungalow Circle and Town Police Station Junction. The traffic police had to wade through knee-deep water to control the rush at places.

Traffic police had to halt traffic on Belagavi –Goa Road for a few hours as the Chorla Ghat Road was blocked owing to the uprooting of some trees and mudslide near the State border.
