Postgraduates in Social Work have asked the government to set Masters in Social Work (MSW) as a qualification for the post of Rural Development Officer (RDO).

They staged a demonstration at Tipu Sultan garden near the office of Deputy Commissioner here on Thursday.

The agitating postgraduates alleged that the government was planning to recruit officers with no qualification or experience in rural work.

“The purpose of creating RDO posts in the Department of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj is to strengthen Panchayat raj system in rural areas. The appointment of candidates, who have experience in rural work and proper postgraduate qualifications in social work, would efficiently serve the purpose,” Mr. Parvatareddy, president of MSW postgraduates protection committee, said.

A memorandum, addressed to the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, was submitted to the office of the Deputy Commissioner.
