Particulate matter (PM) 2.5, which poses great health risk, was less this year when compared with last year. The PM2.5 was 20 micrograms, 26 μg, and 30 μg on the three days during the festival at Kuvempunagar last year. This year, the levels stood at 10 μg, 18 μg, and 12 μg on the first, second, and third day of the festival respectively.
At K.R. Circle, PM2.5 was measured at 28 μg, 38 μg, and 48 μg on the festival days last year. This year, it was 20 μg, 22 μg, and 16 μg, respectively, on the three days. At the KSPCB office, it was 25 μg, 26 μg, and 22 μg last year and 14.3 μg, 15 μg, and 7.6 μg this year.
Same in the case of PM10. The PM10 was 42 μg, 52 μg, and 64 μg on the festival days last year at Kuvempunagar. At the same site this year, the readings were 45 μg, 49 μg, and 36 μg respectively on the three days. In the case of K.R. Circle, the PM10 was 54 μg, 63 μg, and 68 μg during the three days of the festival last year. This year, it was 48 μg, 56 μg, and 50 μg.
The concentration of particulate matter was the lowest this year when compared with the festival days in last two years, according to KSPCB authorities.
