Case relates to alleged illegal denotification of lands in Hebbala Amanikere and Yelahanka

The Special Lokayukta Court, Bangalore, issued summons to the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, his sons Vijayendra and Raghavendra, and son-in-law R.N. Sohan Kumar on Thursday in one of the private complaints filed by advocate Sirajin Basha.

The complaint relates to several instances of alleged illegal denotification of land by Mr. Yeddyurappa in return of financial favours. The court posted the case to March 16 for the appearance of the accused persons even as all the accused have obtained anticipatory bail from the Karnataka High Court.

Even as Mr. Basha sought directions from the court to order an inquiry under Section 202 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, special court judge N.K. Sudhindra Rao said that there was no need to order an inquiry. There were sufficient grounds to conduct the proceedings against the accused, he said and ordered issue of summons.

The court dismissed the case made against MLC Bharathi Shetty and another accused G. Selva Kumar, who were named as accused in the same complaint. The court said no case was made against Ms. Shetty even as he said no details of Mr. Selva Kumar were provided in the complaint. Mr. Basha had alleged that 14,432 sq ft of land in Nagashettihalli was denotified in favour of Selva Kumar, though he was not the original owner.

Mr. Basha's complaint had named 11 persons as accused in his complaint. Later, he had withdrawn the names of former Minister Krishnaiah Setty and Director of E Ramamurthy Minerals, and Metals Private Limited, Praveen Chandra as the instances or irregularities are already under trial in another private complaint filed by Mr. Basha.

In all, seven persons continue to be the accused in the present complaint. They are, B.S. Yeddyurappa, B.Y. Vijayendra, B.Y. Raghavendra, R.N. Sohan Kumar, Praveen Shetty, B.S.Ashok Kumar and B.R. Shetty. The complainant had said commissions and omissions by Mr. Yeddyurappa and others had caused illegal gain to private individuals and loss to the exchequer.
