After a brief lull in view of Assembly elections in Karnataka, the movement for ‘religious minority’ status for Lingayats is again picking up. Community leaders, heads of mutts, and politicians from the community have resumed activities.
In view of the Lingayat rally scheduled for June 3 in Solapur, to be organised by Maharashtra State unit of Lingayat Coordination Committee, community leaders in Kalaburagi recently met and resolved to mobilise as many people as possible from the district to make the event a success.
Prabhulinga Mahagaonkar and R.G. Shetagar, district president and general secretary of Jagatika Lingayat Mahasabha, issued a statement on Tuesday calling the community to participate.
“It will be another mammoth rally similar to the ones held in Bidar, Kalaburagi, Belagavi, Hubballi, in the recent past. We are expecting a huge gathering. People will gather at Basaveshwar Circle and march through the major streets of the city to reach Deputy Commissioner’s office where a memorandum will be submitted,” they said.
