The Governor has taken objection to the State government asking the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) to transfer ₹580 crore from the university’s corpus towards the construction of a campus in Ramanagaram.
Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala has written to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stating that all matters related to this should be done after obtaining the necessary order or a clarification from the High Court.
In the letter, Mr Vala pointed out that the university’s syndicate had passed a resolution to not transfer the amount. The letter states, “Further, it is brought to my notice that a couple of writ petitions are pending before High Court wherein an interim order has been passed and the entire issue with regard to shifting of campus is pending. As such, the issue is subjudice. In view of peculiar facts and circumstances and conflicting decisions of the government and university, without precipitating the matter on the basis of government order, further steps can be taken only after obtaining necessary order or clarification from High Court where the matter is pending.”
For several months now, RGUHS and the State government authorities have been locking horns over the transfer of funds for the construction of the Ramanagaram campus. While the university’s syndicate and senate opposed the transfer stating that a part of the land is under litigation, the government has been urging them to go ahead with it.
The letter, which was written earlier this month, has also been forwarded to the Vice-Chancellor of the varsity.
