Legal services authority’s succour to accident victim

June 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - Mysuru:

The District Legal Services Authority of Mysuru has intervened in the case of a construction worker who was injured following an electrical accident but was discharged from the hospital for his inability to pay the bill.

Sitaram from Bihar was working in a construction site when he suffered severe burns and injuries after the mobile phone, on which he was speaking while it was being charged, exploded. A portion of his tongue was sliced off and his face badly injured.

Though he was admitted to a private medical college in the city, the treatment cost was higher than what was collected through donations.

Free treatment

The District Legal Services Authority of Mysuru took note of his predicament and intervened and got Sitaram admitted to K.R. Hospital for treatment free of cost, according to its member Secretary Dinesh Hegde.

Principal District and Sessions Judge K.S. Mudgal, who is the chairperson of the authority, took initiative and sought relief from the appropriate authorities through the Labour Court, Mr. Hegde said.

Since the victim is from the unorganised sector, the chairperson is keen that all relief and claims available under the law be explored to help him, he said.
