Kumaraswamy comes down on Shaadi Bhagya scheme

November 02, 2013 01:21 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 08:03 pm IST - Hassan:

H.D. Kumaraswamy, leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, criticised the State government’s Shaadi Bhagya scheme, which will provide financial assistance of Rs. 50,000 for the marriage of young Muslim women. He alleged that it was launched only to “fool the minorities” before the 2014 polls.

Addressing presspersons here on Friday, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that the government had announced assistance to only 1,000 families in the State this year. “Why do you restrict the number of beneficiaries only to 1,000? Does that mean only 1,000 young women from poor families should get married this year? What if more get married?” he wanted to know.

He made it clear that he would be raising many serious issues in the next legislature session, scheduled to begin on November 25.
