KSRTC bus driver, conductor in the dock

They have been suspended for allegedly illegally transporting silver lamps worth ₹15 lakh

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) on Friday suspended the driver and the conductor of one of its Airavat Club Class buses for their alleged role in the illegal transportation of silver lamps worth over ₹15 lakh.

They have been identified as N. Narayanappa, driver-cum-conductor, and Krishnamurthy, driver. The luxury bus operates between Bengaluru and Vijayawada.

During a routine inspection at Hoskote, officials found four bags in the luggage space without the mandatory KSRTC tag. At first, the conductor tried to dismiss the fact that the bags had not been tagged. When questioned, he said the luggage had been loaded without a passenger. However, when they continued questioning both of them, the accused admitted that the four bags contained 699 silver lamps, cumulatively weighing over 40 kg.

KSRTC officials brought the incident to the notice of the Commercial Taxes Department. “Taxable silver goods were transported without being covered by prescribed documents such as an e-way bill and tax invoice. No person has come forward to claim the ownership of the goods,” said an official.
