KSOU has still not met conditions for renewal of recognition set by UGC

Board sore over varsity’s delay in fulfilling all formalities

October 06, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - MYSURU:

The recent letter to the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) by the University Grants Commission (UGC) on its delay in fulfilling certain “conditions” for granting recognition, prominently figured at the university’s Board of Management meeting here on Monday.

The UGC had asked for certain documents for the university’s request for granting recognition for some courses that were de-recognised in June this year for flouting norms.

The October 1 letter, written to the KSOU Registrar by Ms. Megha Kaushik, a senior official at the UGC, said the university has not provided the list of study centres which were running in collaboration with the private educational collaborators of the KSOU.

The details sent earlier had not been signed by the concerned authority and was incomplete, the letter said.

Details sought

The UGC sought details of communication sent by the university to individual collaborative institutions and study centres, but the university forwarded a copy of the notification endorsed to all collaborative institutes with its study centres.

The UGC had sought documents on its commitment to withdraw the civil writ petition before the Delhi High Court.

The advocate of the university had been informed to file the necessary memo before the court to withdraw the above case. But, no such communication had been sent to the UGC in this regard, according to the letter.

Renewal delayed

Sources said the members at the board meeting asked university officials why it had failed to provide complete documents/details as sought by the UGC, delaying renewal of recognition. However, the Vice-Chancellor is learnt to have told the members that the UGC’s “conditions” would be met soon and accordingly the documents would be processed.

The board also stopped the university’s reported move to print prospectus for admissions for 2015-16 stating that it was needless at this juncture since the KSOU’s courses had been de-recognised by the UGC.

“What’s the purpose of printing the prospectus detailing the courses when you don’t enjoy UGC’s recognition,” they reportedly asked.

Hoping renewal of recognition at the earliest, the university wanted to keep itself prepared for the admissions and therefore proposed to print prospectus, the meeting was told.
