Members of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene took out a rally at Kollegal on Monday, urging the government to ensure uninterrupted power supply to their irrigation pump sets.

The rally began from the regulated marketing committee yard and culminated on the premises of the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation’s office.

Addressing the protestors, farmer leaders said that farmers had been put to hardship owing to severe disruption in the supply of electricity. General public and farmers were facing problems owing to irregular power supply, they said and added that the quality of quantity of electricity being supplied to irrigation pump sets should be the same as the one being supplied to industries. Standing crops were withering due to lack of water as it was not possible to operate irrigation pump sets owing to irregular supply of electricity, they said. The protesters urged the government to initiate steps to provide adequate power supply to irrigation pump sets and protect the interests of farmers.
