Koliwad offers to pay for official furniture in his house

He had not returned some of the luxury furniture provided to him during his tenure as Speaker

Following reports that former Speaker K.B. Koliwad had not returned some of the luxury furniture, including sofa sets, that were provided to him during his tenure as the Speaker, he has written to Assembly Secretary S. Murthy that he will pay for it.

Of the furniture, including an Italian sofa, massage chair, pigeon box, and four natural wood MDF board storage benches, that had been provided for his official residence on Crescent Road, he has returned the massage chair and pigeon box, he said in the letter. “For the remaining, you fix the price and I will pay,” Mr. Koliwad said in the letter.

Clarifying on the issue, Mr. Murthy told presspersons that it was a “routine process” to take back the official residence and furniture provided to parliamentary functionaries during their term.

“Although Mr. Koliwad has vacated the house, he has taken the used furniture to his own house and has agreed to pay for the same. We follow this process in case of all used furnitures as we cannot provide it to others. This is a tradition followed for all parliamentary functionaries,” he said.

“We have asked the Public Wroks Department to fix the standard rate as they are the competent authorities. We will inform him soon after the rate is fixed,” Mr. Murthy said, adding that the issue was being “blown out of proportion.”
