Speakers at The Hindu Edge Career Counselling Session held at Basavarajeshwari Public School and College (BPSC) in Ballari on Saturday underlined the need for students pursuing higher education after pre-university college to stay focussed on what they wanted to do and to achieve their goals with grit, determination and hard work.
They were all praise for The Hindu for providing a platform to create awareness among young minds on choosing a right career path and shaping a bright future for themselves.
Laxman Nimbargi, Superintendent of Police, who inaugurated the session, said lack of awareness will lead to inferiority complex even among those capable of achieving their goals. Making the best use of the platform provided by The Hindu will help young students overcome inferiority complex and become confident about achieving their goals.
“Back in our days, there were no one to guide us. We had to find a path on our own. But today, with the advancement in the field of science and technology, and because of organisations such as The Hindu , you [students] are aware of the outside world you will be entering. Make use of the opportunity, understand your capacity, set your goals and then achieve them through determination and hard work,” he said.
K. Nitish, CEO of Ballari Zilla Panchayat, underlined the need for students to not get influenced by their parents or friends in pursuing a career. “Class 11 and 12 are crucial. This is the time you have to make the right choice about the career you want to pursue. There are a wide range of options available to you apart from medicine and engineering. Pursue the course of your choice and achieve it,” he said.
Somnath, a leading physician, dwelt on preparing for the National Eligibility-Cum-Entrance Test and the care to be taken while writing answers to avoid negative marking. “Don’t stress yourselves while preparing to crack NEET or any other exam. Be relaxed, concentrate while studying and writing exams. Whatever be the result, my sincere advice to students is that they should not take any extreme steps.”
Shivaprasad Vastrad, technical director of National Informatics Centre, spoke on the choices in engineering stream and urged students to focus on their strengths and weaknesses when choosing their career paths.
S.J.V. Mahipal, chairman of BPSC, asked students to make use of the counselling and take advantage of Article 371 (J), which provides reservation in employment and education, to emerge successful in life.
Fatha Khan, general education expert from Cigma Foundation, threw open the wide range of opportunities available to students. Niranjan, officer from Karnataka Examinations Authority, explained the steps and procedures to be followed during online verification of records/documents, options and the like.
Students from various colleges attended the programme, many of them with their parents.
