The Karnataka Assembly has witnessed two confidence motions within 10 days.

After more than two weeks of political drama, the Congress-JD(S) coalition government lost the trust vote in the Assembly on July 23, 2019. A coalition has lost power once again, for the second time in two decades.

The government was reduced to a minority: the Congress-JD(S) combine’s tally dropped to 99 in the 225-member Assembly. While 105 votes were polled against the trust motion moved by Chief Minister Kumaraswamy, the lone BSP MLA abstained from voting.

The BJP came back to power in the southern State with its State president B.S. Yediyurappa sworn in as the Chief Minister for the fourth time.
