Umesh Jadhav says CM Yediurappa wants to throw it open for commercial operations on same day

Lok Sabha member representing Gulbarga Umesh Jadhav has said that he is trying to get the Kalaburagi airport inaugurated on November 1, the Karnataka Rajyotsava day.

Addressing a media conference at the Aiwan-e-Shahi Guest House here on Sunday, he said that the airport was functional and the remaining work, which would prepare it for commercial operations, were progressing at a good pace.

“I want it to be inaugurated on the day of Karnataka Rajyotsava on November 1. Chief Minister B.S. Yediurappa is also keen on throwing open the airport for commercial operations on the same day. We want Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate it and we are trying hard to get him on the day,” Mr. Jadhav said.

Railway division

When asked about the Union government’s disinterest in establishing a new railway division with its headquarters in Kalaburagi, Mr. Jadhav initially said that the project was not officially approved by the Railway Board and no budgetary allocations were made to implement it.

The media representatives, however, reminded him of the announcement made by former Railway Minister M. Mallikarjun Kharge in his Railway Budget speech during the United Progressive Alliance government, the initial budgetary allocations made for the project, the handing over of the required land by the State government to the Railways for the implementation of the project and its entry in the Pink Book. He was also told that two of the three railway divisions announced by Mr. Kharge were later taken up by the BJP-led Union government, leaving aside the Kalaburagi Railway Division project. Mr. Jadhav then said: “I will try my best to get the Kalaburagi Railway Division project. I assure you all that no new Railway Division would come up in Karnataka before the establishment of Kalaburagi Railway Division.”

On Union government’s policy on Hindi, Mr. Jadhav said: “In fact, I don’t know what actually they [Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other BJP leaders] actually meant by saying one nation and one language. But, I am of the opinion that no language should be forcibly imposed on others,” he said.

Responding to the queries on Operation Lotus, he said, without naming the Congress, that they were creating such a “suffocating situation” in the party that their leaders were quitting one after other and joining the BJP.

Party leaders Doddappagouda Patil Naribol, B.G. Patil, Shashil G. Namoshi and others were present.
