Karnataka Congress gets new president

Senior Congress leader and MLA, Dinesh Gundu Rao, has been appointed as the president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) on Wednesday.

Mr. Rao, son of former Chief Minister the late Gundu Rao, was serving as the working president of KPCC (in-charge of South Karnataka) has been elevated to the top post, which was held by Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka G. Parameshwara.

After several rounds of talks with State and central leaders, the AICC appointed Mr. Rao as president of the State unit of the party. Congress MLA and former Minister Eshwar Khandre has been appointed as the working president of the KPCC.

In a press release, the AICC appreciated the hard work done by Mr. Parameshwara who successfully led the party for last eight years.

Mr. Rao, a loyal party worker, was elected to the Legislative Assembly from Gandhinagar constituency in Bengaluru for the fifth time. He also served as a Minister in the Siddaramaiah government and had been the president of the youth wing of the State Congress.

Mr. Rao, who has been kept out of the JD(S)-Congress coalition government, was one of the few senior legislators who did not express dissent publicly and worked towards pacifying dissenting legislators.

While Mr Rao belonging to the Brahmin community, Mr Khadre belonging to the Veerashaiva-Lingyat community and hails from north Karnataka. Mr Khandre also worked as the Minister in the previous Siddaramaiah government.
