The Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party is set to formally begin its preparations for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections by preparing a poll calendar of events. A meeting of party legislators and district unit presidents will be held in Belagavi on Thursday to discuss this.
According to party sources, the meeting has been planned on the instructions from the party high command. The Central unit wants all State units to have their own poll calendars in tune with the one prepared for national-level events.
About 300 persons are expected to participate in the meeting in Belagavi. “Belagavi has been chosen as the venue for it as all the legislators are here for the winter session,” a BJP leader said.
The BJP Central leadership is said to be keen on meticulous preparation, especially after the party’s debacle in the recent State Assembly elections. They are banking heavily on Karnataka as it is the only southern State where the party has the potential to get a sizeable number of seats. The party believes it can do well here with effective preparation. According to a leader, assigning specific responsibilities to leaders will be discussed at the meeting.
