To highlight the long pending development issues of Hyderabad Karnataka and Bombay Karnataka and to include the Kalasa Banduri Nala Project, pro-Kannada organisations have called for a ‘Karnataka Bandh’ on August 29.
Speaking before the ‘Goa Chalo’ protest organised by pro-Kannada organisations here on Saturday, Vatal Nagaraj of Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha, film producer and Kannada activist Sa.Ra. Govindu, Shivaramegowda of Karnataka Rakashana Vedike said that the agitation was aimed highlighting the long pending issues.
Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Nagaraj said that continued neglect of issues concerning the region would be highlighted during the agitation and also the issue of the drinking water project, for which Goa government was posing hurdles.
Mr. Nagaraj said that although Kalasa Banduri Nala Project was meant for supplying drinking water to villages and Hubballi Dharwad, the Goa government was deliberately trying to obstruct its implementation.
‘Goa Chalo’
He said that the ‘Goa Chalo’ agitation was mainly to highlight the delayed project of the drinking water supply and also the atrocities against the Kannadigas in Goa.
Earlier members of pro-Kannada organisations arrived at Kittur Chennamma Circle in a procession starting from three different points in the city namely Siddharoodh Mutt, Old Hubballi and Sujata Theatre. After holding demonstration at the circle for some time and garlanding the equestrian statue of queen Chennamma, they proceeded to Goa via Karwar.
