The State government conferred the Kanaka Shri award on B.N. Murthy in Bengaluru on Friday. He is the brother of the late B.N. Vijay Kumar, former BJP MLA of Jayanagar in the city, and was associated with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad.

Mr. Murthy was involved in popularising the preachings of Kanakadasa, a poet and saint. The State government celebrates the poet’s birth anniversary on November 15 every year. Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa conferred the award on him at a function organised by the Kannada and Culture Department.
