Kalburgi case: CID questions BJP councillor

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials have questioned a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) municipal councillor and others in connection with the investigation into the > murder of Kannada scholar M.M. Kalburgi here on Friday.

According to sources, BJP councillor Shankar T. Shelake was questioned in connection with a protest held by the pro-Hindu outfits against Prof. Kalburgi on an earlier occasion.

Mr. Shelake, who represents Ward No. 9 of the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) was one among the participants in the protest.

He had also identified himself with Sri Rama Sene before joining the BJP.

He was questioned for more than an hour, sources added.

Notices to outfits It is learnt that the >CID has also issued notices to the members of a few pro-Hindu outfits and the BJP asking them to appear before the investigating officers.

The CID also questioned some of the >students of Prof. Kalburgi , sources said.
