Kadambotsava begins in Belagavi

October 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - BELAGAVI:

The Kadambotsava at Halsi of Khanapur taluk, although organised as a low-key note by the district administration and Department of Tourism, was filled with pomp and gaiety. The inaugural ceremony saw a large number of people enthusiastically participating on Wednesday.

The two-day celebration was officially kept as a low-key affair in view of the prevailing drought and series of farm suicides in the district and other parts of the State.

The festivities commenced with Khanapur MLA Arvind Patil flagging off the ‘Janapada Kalavahini’. Assistant Commissioner Rajashri Jainapure was present.

The procession, which commenced at the Bus Stand Circle in the village, culminated at the Mrugeshvarma Vedike, the main venue of the celebrations.

Cultural programmes were inaugurated later in the evening. It may be recalled here that Halasi was the second capital of Kadamba dynasty and houses the historical jain basti consisting of monuments of architectural importance.
