June 15 deadline for linking ration cards with Aadhar

In a bid to weed out bogus ration cards, the Food Department has made it mandatory for all the ration card holders in the State including those with the Above Poverty Line (APL) cards to link them with their Adhar card numbers by June 15.

Food Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao told a press conference in Bengaluru on Tuesday that already 89,43,367 ration cards of the total 1,10,54,613 had been linked with Aadhar card numbers.

He hinted that in due course, some of the facilities may not be extended to those who fail to link their ration cards with Aadhar numbers.

The plan to link the cards with Aadhar numbers had been taken up in the wake of the State reporting 89 per cent of aadhar coverage among its population, he said.
