JD(S) returns Bengaluru North seat to Congress

Unable to find a suitable candidate for the Bengaluru North constituency, the JD(S) has returned the seat back to the Congress.

This move, which comes as a surprise a day before the last date for filing nominations, sent the Congress leaders into a huddle in Monday morning, who are deliberating on choosing a “suitable” candidate.

The Congress announced that the seat had come back into its fold an hour past midnight on Sunday.

AICC General Secretary in-charge of Karnataka K.C. Venugopal took to Twitter to thank the JD(S) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda for returning the seat.

“@INCIndia is thankful to Shri H D Deve Gowda ji and the JD(S) for their kind gesture of giving back the Bengaluru North Lok Sabha seat to the Congress. Together, let us reclaim democracy,” read his tweet.

Bengaluru North was among the constituencies that Mr Deve Gowda was considering his candidature from.

However, with his decision to contest from Tumkuru, the party was left with no other suitable candidate who could be fielded from Bengaluru North.
