A jatha was taken out under the aegis of Shivamogga Nagarika Hitarakshana Vedikegala Okkoota on Tuesday demanding that the district administration take measures to conserve waterbodies within Shivamogga city limits.

The jatha was organised to mark World Environment Day. K.V. Vasanth Kumar, secretary of the Okkoota and who flagged-off the jatha said, “The administration should undertake a survey of lakes in Navule, Purale, Channamumbapura and smaller ponds within the city limits and fix their boundaries. The encroachment of buffer and catchment areas of the lakes and ponds should be cleared at the earliest. He pressed upon the administration to use the funds released under the Smart City Project to remove the silt accumulated in waterbodies and strengthen their bunds.

Functionaries of Rotary Club, Anna Hazare Horata Samiti, Uthistha Bharatha, Paropakaram organisations took part in the jatha.
