It was processing fee: Parameshwara

Reacting to the notice issued by the Karnataka High Court to the Election Commission of India, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and himself on the application fee of Rs. 10,000 collected from party workers aspiring for party ticket to contest the Legislative Assembly elections, KPCC president G. Parameshwara said that it was for “processing the applications” and there was nothing wrong in it.

Speaking to The Hindu, he said that was like collecting some fee for processing the applications submitted for a college seat. He also said that proper accounts for the amounts collected from the ticket aspirants had been maintained by the party and same would be furnished to the court, if it wished.

Asked about the allegation that money had been taken from some ticket aspirants for giving ticket, the KPCC president reiterated that the entire process of applications and the decision to allocate seats to workers was transparent. However, he said that anybody could lodge a complaint with Ms. Gandhi and the same would be inquired into by the Disciplinary Committee headed by Defence Minister A.K. Antony.
