The elder son in a farming family, Ishwar Sitaram Joshi had expected to score 98% in the SSLC examination and the results sprang a sweet surprise on him. He had scored 624 marks (99.84%).

The son of Sitaram Joshi and Saraswati, Ishwar is from Kallabbe village in Kumta taluk and is a student of Pragati Vidyalaya English Medium School at Muroor. “I studied for around six hours daily and completed revision on a day-to-today basis,” he told The Hindu over telephone from Gujarat, where he is enjoying his holidays at his uncle’s residence. Ishwar wants to pursue to engineering.

‘He planned his studies’

His father Mr. Joshi, who does farming on his one acre land, said they never expected Ishwar would stand second in the State. “We thought he would get around 95%, but never pressurised him to study. We let him plan his studies, and now, we have a happier result,” he said.
