International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every year on May 12 on the occasion of Florence Nightingale’s birthday. The Manipal College of Nursing (MCON) and Manipal School of Nursing conducted various activities to celebrate International Nurses week. This year, the theme chosen by the International Council of Nurses (ICN) is — ‘Nurses: A force for Change: Care Effective, Cost Effective’.

At a function held on Saturday, Principal of Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences Fathima D’Silva, in her keynote address, highlighted the healthcare inefficiencies and invisibility of nurses in healthcare teams. Dr. Fathima proposed various strategies to resolve these issues such as integration with other health team members, developing leadership roles through nurse navigators and cost analysis during caring process.

Anice George, Dean of MCON, was felicitated during the programme.
