Commissioner of Mysore City Corporation C.G. Betsurmath, who attended a two-day conclave on smart cities in New Delhi, said Mysuru, one of the cities short-listed under the mission, will intensely compete with other prospective cities for ‘Smart City’ status.

“Going by the proceedings at the conclave, Mysuru has a reasonable chance of making it to the final list. I think the city meets most of the factors for staking claim for developing a Smart City. The city is also known for its reforms and innovation,” the Commissioner said.

Overview of mission

“The conclave was convened to give an overview of the mission and the issues that need to be looked at by the States for staking a claim for developing smart cities,” the Commissioner said.

Dr. Betsurmath said several cities had been short-listed under the programme and these cities have to vie for their inclusion in the mission.

The onus is on the short-listed cities, including Mysuru, to submit proposals to the Centre, listing out its strengths and standing in the key parameters for earning the status.

“No time had been given to us for submitting the proposals. We will start working and put up a strong case before the Centre,” he replied.
