The Election Commission of India (EC) has issued a clarification to clear the confusion among officials and voters on marking fingers with indelible ink before voting in the Assembly elections.
Markings
The EC has stated that the ring finger of the left hand would be marked for regular voters and the little finger of the left hand in case of a re-poll.
Proxy voting
In case of proxy voting (for defence and other service personnel), the mark will be placed on the index finger of the right hand. The confusion arose because voters in urban areas, who participated in the recent urban local body elections, had the index finger of the left hand marked before voting.
