The Hyderabad Karnataka Kanaka Jagruti Vedike has charged the Union government with not responding positively to the recommendations of the State government to include Kurubas and its 50 synonyms in the Scheduled Tribe list.

The vedike warned of a sustained agitation against the Union government’s indifferent attitude.

Vedike president Mallanna Itagi told presspersons in Kalaburagi city on Friday that the proposal for inclusion of these communities in the Scheduled Tribe list has been sent long back by the State government, but the Union government had not responded to the recommendations so far. Mr. Itagi said that the vedike would stage a protest in Kalaburagi city on October 28 as the first phase of the agitation. As per the gazette notification issued by the State government, nomadic tribes including Kuruba, Gona, Rajgonda, Kadukuruba, Jenu Kuruba should be considered as scheduled tribes. The people belonging to the Kuruba and Gonda community in Hyderabad Karnataka region were denied Scheduled Tribe certificates and deprived of the reservation benefits due to them, he said.
