Life continued to remain affected as Dharwad received incessant rainfall on Sunday. Rain began lashing the city on Friday evening forcing residents not to venture out of their houses. Shop-keepers in the market area were at the receiving end as business activities were disrupted. To add their miseries, storm water gushed into several shops and shop-keepers had a harrowing time draining rainwater. Some of them said that the municipal authorities not clearing choked gutters was the reason for this.

The monsoon rain has also affected the road condition. PB Road, which is a busy road in Dharwad, is one of the severely damaged roads now.

Innumerable potholes have appeared on the road making it impossible for motorists. The NHAI has taken up road widening on PB Road and the work is in progress on a portion of the road. The remaining portion has now been severely damaged due to rain.

Similar is the situation on other major roads in the city. Excluding some of the concrete roads, asphalted roads are in a pathetic condition. The road passing through Tapovan too is filled with potholes and is slippery. People are apprehensive of treading on this road, while motorists are cursing officials for not taking up road repair work before monsoon entered the district.

Rural areas of Dharwad taluk too are receiving good rainfall for the last one week. A huge tree fell on Dharwad-Haliyal Road on the outskirts of Dharwad causing traffic jam for more than three hours. Villagers themselves arranged an earthmover to remove the tree and made way for vehicular movement. Due to gusty winds, electricity poles were uprooted in many villages causing power disruption.

As per information available, Dharwad has received 26.6 mm rainfall in the last two days. Navalgund, Kundgol, Hubballi and Kalghatgi taluks too have received good rainfall.
