Access to information on the movement of buses may become easy with the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) launching an Android-based app.

With support from Infosys Mysuru, KSRTC proposes to soon launch a user-friendly mobile app that will enable commuters to get information on the arrival of buses at bus-stops.

A KSRTC official told The Hindu that the application developed by a software company is being tested in Bengaluru, and the linking web services have been developed by CMC, a Tata Consultancy Services-owned firm, which had developed technology for the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) or Mitra here. “This app can soon be downloaded for free from Google Play,” he added. The app will provide route details, time that the bus will reach the bus stop and such other details. Though KSRTC had earlier planned to develop the app, shortage of funds caused the delay. “Infosys Mysuru offered to support the project as a goodwill gesture to KSRTC that operates buses to its campus in Hebbal industrial area,” the official said.

The official claimed that no other city in the State, including Bengaluru, has a mobile app that offers real-time information on the buses being operated on the intra-city routes. Mumbai, the country’s economic hub, has an app called – m-indicator – that gives information on the Mumbai transport system. “But this app gives pre-loaded static info not the real-time information like the one proposed to be launched in Mysuru,” he added.
