Yielding to pressure from lecturers, the Department of Pre- University Education (DPUE) has decided to delay the commencement of the academic year for PU colleges. In a circular issued on Tuesday, the department stated that II PU classes will begin only on May 20.
Earlier, the department had sent a proposal to the government for classes to commence in the first week of May. The last working day for lecturers for the academic year was Tuesday, March 19.
Thimmaiah Purle, President of the Karnataka State Pre-university College Lecturers’ Association, had met Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy over the matter and urged him to delay the reopening of the academic year.
