Mysuru Karnataka: 30-07-2018: The proposal to develop Brindavan Gardens on the lines of Disneyland has evoked protest.

The State government’s ambitious plan to develop the Brindavan Gardens, on the downstream of Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS), on the lines of Disneyland in the U.S. moved forward on Thursday with the Mandya district administration commencing the process of identifying government land for the project.

The development of Brindavan Gardens was announced during the previous Congress regime at the platinum jubilee celebrations of the formation of Mandya district in February 2015. Now, it is the coalition government that has commenced the process.

A high-level meeting was convened here on Thursday to discuss identification of land for the project. The meeting was chaired by N. Manjushri, Deputy Commissioner of Mandya. Officials from the Department of Tourism, Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Ltd. (CNNL), Revenue and other departments/agencies concerned attended the meeting.

In the initial stage, Ms. Manjushri’s team will identify only the government land required for the project. After the completion of the process, a report would be submitted to the State government, a senior CNNL officer said.

“It was a table-top exercise to identify existing government land,” Ms. Manjushri told The Hindu .

The project will require 400 acres of land. If more land is required other than government land, it would be acquired from the farmers of Hongahalli adjacent to KRS, the CNNL officer said.

Ms. Manjushri is expected to inspect the KRS, Brindavan Gardens, Hongahalli, and other areas on Friday.

At present, the Brindavan Gardens attracts at least 3.2 lakh tourists a month.
